Founder and leader for the Movement for Change, John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has stated that, Ghana needs a new kind of leadership that will propel the country into becoming one of the economic giants on the continent of Africa and the World at large.
The doyen of Ghana’s politics revealed that, Ghana’s problems are numerous, thus impeding the smooth transitioning into economic independence. The reason for this, according to Alan Kyerematen, is the leadership Ghana lacks. He added that, Ghana has so much natural resources but the country is not able to harness them properly thereby, creating the constant economic recession in the country.
"How you manage your natural resources can either be a blessing or a curse. The progress of a country depends on the leadership. We need a new type of leadership in our country. This type of leadership must exhibit some enviable characteristics which will elevate the country above the economic hardship."
Elaborating on the leadership, Mr. Kyerematen added that, Ghana has suffered the lack of visionary leaders’ since the overthrow of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
"We need a visionary leader who has what it takes to transform the country. If you have the vision yet you lack the competence, then you become just a dreamer. So in addition to the visionary leadership, there is need to possess the requisite competence."
The former Trade and Industry minister in the Akufo-Addo government, added that, Ghana also needs a leader who will be solely accountable to the citizenry.
"When you translate your dreams into concrete projects and programmes, then you need to be accountable to your people.
"If you are a politician an your people vote for you, then the people are putting their trust in you to shape the economy of the nation on their behalf," he said.
During an exclusive interview with Kwame Nkrumah Tikese, host of Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia, the venerable politician Ghana, through his innovative leadership, will be placed on the highest pedestal of economic freedom.
As part of his tour, Alan Kyerematen noted that, it will only take a bold leader to go to the market men and women and interact with them, adding that, that is the only way the leader can get the actual message of the citizens.
Speaking on industrialisation, the Movement for Change convener, added his industrialisation agenda will avoid the unnecessary export of Ghana’s mineral resources as well as the raw materials.
In addition to that, the making of Ghana into an industrial state will reduce drastically the overwhelming unemployment issues amongst the youth.
Speaking in relation to the upcoming general elections, Mr. Keyermanten noted that the duopoly of NDC/NPP have set the country at a standstill.
According to him, the narrative ought to change so that Ghanaians can smile again after years of enduring economic turmoil.
He added that, China transformed their economy within 32 years but questioned why Ghana, after 32 years of enjoying a democratically elected government, still wallow in poverty and move cup in hand, begging for foreign aids and interventions.
