Kofi Akpaloo, flagbearer of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), has called on the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa to rescind on her decision to print the ballot papers with the late Madam Akua Donkor’s image, stating that the presidential ballot papers for the 2024 elections should be printed without the image of the deceased GFP flagbearer.

According to Mr. Akpaloo, giving that the EC had approved the replacement for the founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Madam Akua Donkor, her image would have been deleted. It is in this vein that Mr. Akpaloo calls on the EC to print the ballot papers without the image of Madam Akua Donkor.

He argues that madam Akua’s Donkor’s inclusion on the ballot paper may impact the outcome of the December 7 Presidential and parliamentary elections.

At a press conference held in Accra on Wednesday, 13th November, Mr. Akpaloo reiterated that omitting the image of Madam Akua Donkor on the ballot would go a long way to protect the integrity of the December 7 polls, where all forms of confusion would be avoided.

He said, “having a ballot paper with Akua Donkor’s picture is going to create a whole lot of problems in the country. People are going to vote for Akua Donkor, of whom we are all aware that she is not alive so how are they going to do the counting? Because with the presidential polls, we do the calculations based on the percentage garnered by each candidate."

“Are we going to say that those votes that were cast for her will be taken off the ballot or are they going to be counted?

Mr. Akpaloo argued, "we don’t want a situation whereby a losing candidate will say he will not accept the results because of percentages, and so we are asking the EC to reprint new ballot papers without Akua Donkor’s picture on them.”
