Where Did Those Monies Prior To The SML Contract Go? - Ayeh-Paye Questions

Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayensuano constituency, Samuel Ayeh-Paye has appealed to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) to review their agreement in line with the recommendations by KPMG.

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo directed KPMG to audit the revenue assurance contract between GRA and SML that caused a stir following a publication by the Fourth Estate which alleged some foul play by the two institutions.

The KPMG, in its findings, exonerated the GRA and SML but made some recommendations pertaining to how the contract was signed.

The contract is said to have not been initially approved by the Public Procurement Authority before execution among others that raised concerns about the agreement between the two institutions.

Addressing the issue on Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo", Mr. Ayeh-Paye advised the institutions to heed the recommendations by the KPMG ensuring the right thing is done.

He called on them to return to the table and redo their agreement by going through the appropriate medium to authenticate the contract.

"Good thing was done by wrong method...So, they should go back and rectify whatever they didn't do before awarding the contract...GRA and SML must sit up again and remove the things that KPMG says they didn't do and which contravenes the law," he said.

Ayeh-Paye also asked the President to direct for an investigation into where the monies before SML stepped in to help the State gain 2.4 billion cedis from downstream petroleum sector went to or who was receiving the monies.

"Where did those monies go? Who received them? We must investigate it. If something happened between the bulk oil distributors/importers, the OMCs, and workers at GRA as well as the NPA, we deserve to know and if a punishment must be meted out to either the OMCs, NPA or GRA, we do it."
