Ejisu By-election: NPP is not Engaging in Vote-buying - Nana B k

Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has kicked against the allegation of vote buying in the ongoing Ejisu by-election.

According to Nana B, there has not been any case involving an NPP member luring anyone to vote for their candidate.

He said, “I have been here, I have not seen anybody influencing anyone, so those accusations are baseless.”

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) had stated in its press release that a video has been circulating on social media where a voter was seen allegedly issuing an envelope to a Presiding officer.

The EC added that, investigations showed that the incident took place at the Fumesua Pentecost Church Polling Station with Polling station code F311503.

The incidence has led to the withdrawal of two temporary officers of the Electoral Commission while investigations are carried out.

The video shows a gentleman approaching the table and dropping an envelope on the table manned by the Presiding Officer and Ballot Issuer.

A statement issued on April 30 and signed by the Deputy Chairperson, Operations, Mr. Samuel Tetteh reads, “The Electoral Commission has taken immediate steps and has withdrawn the two (2) temporary staff while investigations take place."

“The Commission upholds the principles and values of integrity, truth and transparency. These values are reinforced during the training of all temporary staff. The Commission will not countenance acts which cast a slur on the integrity of the institution and will not hesitate to sanction its officials who violate its laws.

“The report on the incident will be made available to the public in due course,” a statement issued by Deputy Chairman, Operations, Samule Tettey said.

Meanwhile, the National Organizer of the NPP added that, the party will not promote anything that will bring its name and brand into disrepute adding that, the NPP always encourages transparent elections.
